Reverend,
Doctor,
Husband,
and Dad.
I’m the Rev Dr Joseph McAuley, but nobody ever calls me that. I’m the lead pastor at St Luke’s church in Tauranga, a Professional Supervisor, a teacher, and an author. Along the way I’ve done some study and have picked up a Ministry Internship Diploma from Laidlaw College, a Master of Arts from Alphacrucis College, a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Professional Supervision from The University of Auckland.
As a theological ‘pracademic,’ I see sound theology as a discipline that serves local churches, strengthens pastors and congregants in their faith journey, and opens the door to the fullness of life that is found in Christ. As a pastor my passion is to see Christ-followers develop a deep trust in God and, with the help of the Holy Sprit, to cultivate lives that are holy, whole, and wholesome. In professional supervision I work with clients to from a pastoral collaboration from which to navigate ministry complexity, develop emotional capacity, and foster wholistic well-being.
I’m married to Lisa and we have three teenage children. I’m of Māori (Ngai Tahu), Scottish and Danish decent. I’m an INTJ (Myers-Briggs), a strategist, learner, futurist, maximiser and relator (Strength Finders), a TPA (Ephesians 4), a Warriors die-hard (NRL), a runner (The Mount), a reader (very bookish), and a golfer (playing off a 12).
